It mandates child-friendly procedures for reporting, recording evidence, and conducting trials to ensure the child’s safety and dignity throughout the judicial process.

The Act defines a child as anyone below 18 years of age and includes provisions for severe punishments for offenders, especially in cases of aggravated sexual assault. It also emphasizes the importance of timely investigation and trial, aiming to complete investigations within two months and trials within six months.

The POCSO Act also makes it mandatory for individuals to report any known instances of child sexual abuse, ensuring that the legal duty to protect children is shared by all.
